GEMMA PEARCE

A Modern Artist

Gemma is a nature inspired artist, who was born and resides in the Isles of Scilly - a beautiful archipelago 28 miles off the Cornish coast. Art was a hobby for Gemma for many years, completely self-taught, she opened her Studio in 2020 where she creates detailed modern pieces of art through the technique of stippling -  an image comprised from hundreds and thousands of dots. With a passion for art and a love for animals, Gemma brings the subject to life with her unique style and form of movement, even when the subject is devoid of it's environment, leaving the rest to your imagination.

Gemma also occasionally paints large canvases in acrylics and oils, enjoying the freedom that  paint brings.

Originals, Prints, Greeting Cards and Canvas Paintings are available in the shop.

Commission pieces are welcomed, I love to create a unique piece! Please get in touch to discuss.

Current work in progress.

My Studio

Situated at Rocky Hill, St. Mary's, my studio is nestled into the hillside. A converted old farm building - possibly once a glass house. With a deceptive appearance from the outside, once you step down into the studio it is surprisingly light and airy!

The history of Rocky Hill Farmhouse and studio (then a glass house) can be dated back to 1841 with residents Samuel Trevellick, a farmer, his wife Nanny, and their five children. One of which was their son William, of Rocky Hill Farm, who in 1879 (then a potato farmer) observed an array of wild Narcissi growing on the islands and sent a box of scented Narcissi to Covent Garden. On receiving an unexpected fortune for the flowers, William Trevellick, along with three other men, became the first flower farmers on St. Mary's.
