Swimming in the sea at Shark's Pit, with the Scillonian III docked at St. Mary's quay on the horizon.
From Shark's Pit
There's something special about seeing Scilly from the sea - the islands feel completely different when you're surrounded by water, with the familiar landscape unfolding in the distance.
This painting was inspired by a moment at Shark's Pit, a beach close to my home and studio. I took the reference photograph while I was swimming in the sea, looking towards the quay where the Scillonian III lay quietly in the distance.
I was drawn to the beautiful simplicity of the scene: the clear island waters, the gentle movement of the sea and the unmistakable silhouette of the Scillonian III. For me, it captures something more than a particular view - it captures a feeling of being here. That sense of freedom, calm and connection to the sea that makes the Isles of Scilly so special.
I'm incredibly lucky to have these views on my doorstep, and my paintings are my way of sharing a little piece of that island life with you.
Whether Scilly holds special memories for you, is somewhere you return to year after year, or is simply a place you dream of visiting, I hope this painting brings a little bit of that feeling into your home.
