Adrift

Bee, a traditional Scillonian cutter built in 1903, drifts alone across a sea of fading light after breaking free from her mooring. Untethered and vulnerable, she carries a quiet resilience, suspended between freedom and uncertainty beneath an endless horizon.

I painted this piece as a reflection on those moments in life when we find ourselves unexpectedly cast adrift. When familiar anchors are lost and the path ahead is unclear, there is often a sense of isolation, but also the possibility of discovery. Like Bee, we may feel exposed and uncertain, yet we continue to be carried forward by unseen tides, finding strength in simply staying afloat.

In the stillness of the water and the soft light of dusk, I wanted to capture that delicate balance between loneliness and hope, vulnerability and resilience.

Acrylic painting on a deep edged canvas (approx. 80.5cm x 50cm x 3.8cm).

Painting fully wrapped around the edges. 

Finished with satin UV varnish and ready to hang without a frame for a contemporary look.
